826 Boston Black History Month talk on Phillis!

“If she can do that, then I can do anything!”

For Black History Month 2023, Ade met with the young writers and publishers of 826 Club in Roxbury, Boston

826 Boston is a non-profit writing, tutoring, and publishing organization where students in grades K-12 and beyond can share their stories, amplify their voices, and develop as leaders in school and in life.

826 Boston provides free writing and tutoring programs for Boston students ages 6 to 18, serving more than 3,000 students and forming supportive partnerships with 150 teachers annually.

The students were inspired by the story of how Phillis wrote poetry and published her book – while she was still enslaved. “If she can do that, then I can do anything,” said one.
